This blog was created for the members and fans of the Wichita Area Garden Railroad Society. We strive to promote the hobby of Garden Railroading in South Central Kansas.

Checking out Big Boy!
Over the weekend, WAGRS member Steve S., his son, wife, and Dad got to go to the Forney Transportation Museum in Denver, Colorado to see "Big Boy" as well as other vintage transportation artifacts. "Grandpa, come see this!" was the phrase of the day.
Every Year, the club hosts an open house for folks to come see the gardens at their best. Our members love to show off our trains and gardens. Many gardens feature miniature worlds with buildings and people. Others focus on the natural aspect of "trains through a garden".
Is it real or a model?
This train is a Shay loco at the blog hosts garden railroad. We hosted an open house on July 4, 2008 where this was taken. Garden Railroaders love to take pics of these trains and fool folks who actually think they are real trains.
One of our youngest members with his collection.
My son is the third generation of train fans in our family. His grandfather was a live steamer in Golden, Colorado. My husband is the "trackmaster" of our Kansas Central and Colorado Railroad. Our son knows more about trains than any other 7 year old I know.
Members of MyLargeScale at Marty's September Thingy in Nebraska.
Every year, a friend of ours with a massive layout hosts his "September Thingy". Folks come from all over the country for this. These are members of www.mylargescale.com.
Our members like the real thing too. This is in Chattanooga, Tennessee. "The Long Black Train"
I took this pic in 2006 on our trip to Tennessee. This is the "Long Black Train" featured in the Josh Turner video. This train runs on the historic Tennessee Valley Railroad in Chattanooga.
What is the Wichita Area Garden Railroad Society?
We get asked this alot. Most people only get to see us at "Illumination: Botanica" every Christmas or the annual garden tour in September. Garden Railroading is the outdoor, large scale arm of the model railroading hobby. We generally run G scale trains on track we have laid in private garden setting. Many of our members have created little towns with buildings, miniature people, and other items. Some of our members simply enjoy have vintage trains meander through a beautiful garden. It is a little known hobby, but WAGRS is bound and determined to show South Central Kansas what Garden Railroading is all about. Our members live in Wichita, Augusta, Derby, Andover, Newton, Park City, Salina, Bennington, and I'm sure some other towns I have failed to mention. Please feel free to come to a meeting and see what we are all about. The meeting calendar is listed on this blog. For more information, please e-mail the blog host at sstockham1@cox.net.

I am a 36 year old mom of 2 living in the great state of Kansas. I actually like Kansas, believe it or not. Not that I can't enjoy fabulous locations like the Caribbean, Colorado, Alaska, and such, but Kansas is home. My life is full of activities mostly connected with my kids. We do love to travel and have a Garden Railroad. Yep, we're pretty eccentric. I host my private blog for family and friends, and one for WAGRS garden railroad club.
As for the WAGRS blog. I am the blog master for this club as we have been members for going on 5 years now. We tried to do a website, but that was a mess. "Hey, lets blog it!" I told them. So, here we are. Check us out.
